• Photos of The Heights of Abraham, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire
No visit to Matlock Bath would be complete without a trip on the famous cable cars.
The cable car was opened in 1984. The journey is 568 metres long and climbs 169 metres.
The steel cable is a continuous loop 1,136m long and 40.2mm thick. There are 12 cable cars (four groups of three) made from glass reinforced plastic.
Cars are connected to the cable by a bracket which is bent so that the cars hang at the correct angle at all times. The cable car was designed and manufactured by Pomagalski of Grenoble, France.

Once you have reached the top there are many things to do. Aside from the marvelous views there is.....
High Falls gift shop, Great Masson Cavern, Treetops Centre, Summit bar and restaurant, Victoria Prospect Tower, Play and picnic areas, Great Rutland Cavern-Nestus Mine.

If you are scared of heights but would like to see what you are missing then the photos on this page should be well received. It is possible to get to the top by foot using the East or West lodge pedestrian trials, due to the steepness of the hillside the path has to meander back and forth so this will take a bit longer than using the cable cars.
