Other Information : Ultimate Leisure Group plc bought the former post office building in June 2003 and have invested around £3M converting it into a new bar with a western Theme called "Coyote Wild". The bar is open from 6pm to 1.30am and with free entry so should be a unique popular alternative to the other bars in Derby.

Other Information : This new pub is Varsity and it was opened on 27th Nov 2002. It is located at 21-22 Friar Gate which are grade II listed buildings. The Barracuda Group (owners) received a £63,000 grant from Derby City Council's Townscape Heritage Initiative to renovate the buildings as well as investing £1m of their own money.
During refurbishment work an 18th Century bakery, complete with clay oven, was found at the rear of the premises, which had previously been shops. This has been restored and incorporated into the interior as a feature.
As of May 2011 this pub became The Almanac.
